At fourteen, her merchant troupe was attacked by rogue mercenaries and she was left behind for dead, where Timo and Tuuli, members of a tribe closely related to Vaike's, found her. They have been travelling together ever since, which means for three years by now.

While not the best knight, his heart is in his work, and prefers to use his skills as a for of protection and not oppression, meaning he gets picked for guard duty and patrol more often than not. He's also one of the more popular swordsmanship teachers, even though he's not the master of the craft, but the most personable with the younger and newer squires and knights. Toris has been working as a knight for 4 years now, starting when he was 15 as a squire; he's only recently been bumped up to an official knightship.

He has been cursed to being repulsive in appearance, about as monstrous as a human can look. Seen as a danger to the pure bloodline, he has been cast away and has been struggling to support himself ever since, after countless efforts to try and find a cure to his curse. Securing mercenaries is rather difficult (as he tends to frighten them away), so it isn't strange for Berwald to wear a mask while trying to sell his goods. He excels in making his own items and selling almost all things wood.
